This is one of my favorite Mini-Planes. It is the Vought OS2U Kingfisher. These were shot off catapults from cruisers and battleships around the time of WWII. If taking odd from a carrier was rough this most have been something else. Plus these were not as powerful as the carrier planes. These had a 450 HP engine while carrier planes had engines in the 1000 HP range. The planes were used for spotting for long range guns from the ships, scouting and sea rescue.
The nice details on this model include both the front and rear machine guns along the floats for landing in the ocean. Also there is a bomb under each wing. Not anly that but the propellor spins if you blow on it.
Super cool WW2 era plane...bombs away!
That is an awesome plane! You have such great toys!!
Thank you very much Newfld.
And thank you very much Deja Vu.
Nice model. What happened when the plane finished its mission? Did it just land near the ship and bob about in the sea until it could be winched back on board? Seems like these pilots got a bit of a raw deal.
Thank you very much elanski. Yes they had to bob about in the sea until they were retrieved. You can see the cranes at the rear of the American ships.
