This medal is about 1.25" in diameter and has images on both sides. It appears to be made of bronze or some other alloy of copper. The rim is smooth. Google Images found nothing similar. A research opportunity, plus it was cheap and cool.
Google Translate gives a result whether Japanese or Chinese is selected but given its freedom to choose, thinks it is Japanese.
The Japanese translation of the central line of characters is "Synchronicity landing" and only translates the second character of those at the bottom as "Science"
The Chinese translation of the same is "Move to land" or "Will move the land" and "Study".
The seller speculated that this may be a secondary school sports medal, but it is a very finely designed and executed medal, though quite small. I could find nothing similar. Kind of feels 1930ish, to me.
So nice to see these. I only have a handful of medals but I wish I had a lot more. These are fascinating.
Thanks for your comments, PhilDMorris! This one is pretty cool, for sure.
