Flintlock squirrel rifle in .31 cal.

.31 cal. Flintlock kids rifle. I started buying parts for this youth rifle for my son when he was around 2 years of age. Never got all the pieces together till last year, now that the boy is 45 years old, I decided to finish it for the grandchildren. The hard maple stock came from a friend that pickup up a couple of them at a garage sale (of all places), knowing they would be of interest to me. The 3/4'' .31 caliber is a H&H barrel in 36''. I tapper fluted the barrel and managed to knock off a pound in weight. The small Siler kit lock was face and frizzen Tig welded to allow a 3-degree ground tapper as evident in the 2nd photo. It took what was going to be a very flat gun around the wrist, to a wonderful hourglass figure, like that of a fine lady. Which in rightness this is. This major angle had to be adjusted in height off the inner face that goes against the barrel. I had over a 1/8'' added, as necessary to keep front of lock out of the ramrod path with main spring on such a dramatic angle. I finish off in German silver, with a nice sliding patch box of Caribou. The rifle weighs in at 6.6 pounds, has a short pull that hold like a .22 rifle. I finished this just before Howard City gun shoot October, and she shoots pretty good with 30 grains of powder.
