This Moriage tea set consists of teapot 6.5" high x 4" diameter and sugar bowl 4.5" high x 3.5" diameter, minus spout and handles, including lids. Both are marked on the bottom. They are made of very thin, high fired porcelain which sounds like glass when struck. The depth of the rim on the lid of the teapot may be a clue to its use, as I am not sure if this is a tea/cocoa/coffee set.

It is in nice condition, with just a bit of loss on the handle of the teapot. The finials of the lids are an odd shape which I have not seen before, perhaps a clue to the age of the set. This is my February sub-$20 find. Age and maker not known, but post 1920 Japanese.

Still very dirty, as I suffered some burst pipes in my second floor bathroom due to subzero temperatures and have not had running water for over two weeks. Plumbers here are one armed paperhanger busy.

Rakan (Sanskrit: arhat) are ascetics who guard and proclaim Buddhist law on earth in the period between the death of Shakyamuni, the historical Buddha, and the coming of Maitreya, the Buddha of the Future. They have inspired some of the freest and most lively depictions of the human figure in Japanese art.

      rakans are dharma protecters
