Last of Americana: Hen House Highway sign?Hen House was founded by an old time entrepreneur, Larry Rugg. Work ethic, forward thinking, employee incentives and home cooked food were the basis of success some 50 years ago.?House Interstate, Inc. was a Chesterfield, Missouri-based company that owned and operated a chain of restaurants that at one time grew to 40 locations on the American Interstate highway system throughout Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri and Kansas.[1] The chain was known for its open menu concept, which allowed patrons to order any kind of food at any time of the day, such as eggs and pancakes at dinnertime and hamburgers and fried chicken in the morning,[1] and for the distinctive design of its buildings, the exteriors of which resembled hay barns.[2]?We met Larry 20 years ago while owning the local grocery store. We help him with a local issue and became friends. 20 years later he repaid that small kindness by selling thr second to the last of the Hen Houses.?This sign is a picture of the past that should not be lost or destroyed. Last of its kind! A tribute to Larry Rugg?Sincerely?Brooks Marsh
