The GP series of locomotives were a very successful series of locomotives. They were probably the most common type of locomotives until around the 1990s when the big 6 axle units took over. These were road switchers which means they were used for both the mainline and switching. The GP35 was made from 1963-1965 by EMD/General Motors. Last I recall they were up to the GP 60.
This is the Athearn version with the famed flywheel drive. It makes start ups and stops realistic as it starts and stops slowly like an actual locomotive.
I have not done as well as I planned as far as posting goes but I am working on it.

Super locomotive. Makes me think of the train song 'On the Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe'

Ever thought of putting together a layout ? Maybe outside in the yard ? I'm a huge fan of your train engines!

“Urban legend”, among model rails, is that the dies that these were made in, were originally the “GP30” dies, which, supposedly, Irv Athearn hated. He halted production, and had the dies reworked into the GP35. If you hold the two locos, side by side, there is a fair amount of resemblance, so maybe it’s true.
