Here is a pair of boxcars by different manufacturers that show the difference in quality. The first is Athearn. It is a model of a wooden boxcar. Not quite as good as last week's but still fairly detailed. It is made up of several parts. The roof walkway, brake wheel, couplers, doors and base are all separate pieces. The other which is Mantua aka Tyco is almost a one piece casting. It is the body of the car with the doors and trucks being separate pieces. Even the couplers are connected to the trucks. I do like the graphics on it. It is a bit bright but I can fix that with a little weathering.
Got one more boxcar to go.
That UP boxcar looks like a Marx. Athearn has always used a separate frame, that snaps into the shell of the car. Very nice find, in great shape!
