Steptoe1, Cool. :-)
I see that you have another near twin:

FYI, the engraving on the medal edge has two little dots above the "U" in the place name. Those two little dots are known as an "umlaut," a term coined by Jacob Grimm of fairy tale fame. An umlaut is a diacritic mark that affects pronounciation of the vowel sound:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Umlaut_(linguistics)
If you don't have a keyboard that handles umlaut characters, you can follow the basic alphabet character with an "e." Hence, Münster becomes "Muenster."
I found a near twin of your medals (The wreath on the reverse side is a bit different) from the 1920s:

Because your medals have both English and German on them, I suspect they are from international swimming competitions.
Thanks kera great help, I thought they was interesting as they date from 1945 , thought maybe it was a local event but couldn’t find anything online, bought them as scrap silver, 27.4 g
