These small flags would go on the end of a rifle barrel or perhaps a bayonet. By small I mean it is 9" x 7" and sadly the piece that connected the flag is missing. Americans were known for fighting for souvenirs and it may not have been removed with historical preservation in mind.
In the 2nd photo there appears to be some Japanese script. The last hoto has a Japanese bayonet for scale.
I will either frame this or use it for a backdrop for my GI Joe Japanese Imperial soldiers.
After WW2 Japanese factories were printing flag simular to this for GIs to send home as souvenirs
I love the Japanese but I certainly am glad
