This was found a year after I moved to Saskatchewan and bought a house built by an English immigrant in 1928. He came from near Woolwich Arsenal about 4 kms. from where the Eurydice was broken up in 1834?
It is made of oak with a fabulous patina, It probably was retrieved from an officer's cabin as there were strict smoking regulations for the crew of an 18th century warship.
My house was occupied by 3 generations of the same family until the last members passed on to a nursing home dying during covid
lockdown.I found many items in the attic including military jackets from as early as 1881 with photo of immigrant wearing it at age 21 .
Modern piperests do not have holes except 1 made recently .in Lithuania which is almost identical
Fascinating family history of your home and the pipe rest!
Thanks for your kind comment Watchsearcher. The piperest gives me a particular thrill as Fletcher Christian was likely as near to it as I am sitting here .He served for nearly 2 years before his H.M.S Bounty adventure.
