Actually I have two GP 50s here. One is a powered unit and the other is a dummy unit. A nice feature here is that the 2 units have different road numbers, 3814 is the powered unit and 3571 is the dummy. You don't need two power units on an HO layout thus the dummy. Any mainline railroad in the US is going to have at least two locomotives.
The GP50 was made by General Motors from 1980-1985. It had a V16 Diesel engine that had 3500 HP which was quite a bit for a road switcher. The Santa Fe units were painted in the warbonnet scheme. The same scheme their passenger trains used but in blue and yellow. There are videos of large numbers of these locomotives pulling trains over the Cajon Pass.
Santa Fe/AT&SF bought 45 of these and all but one is still in service.
