A big week for Matchbox, have enough new ones for three more weeks, four including this one. This one being the Military Ambulance. Sadly it is missing the red cross decals or stickers but the part is the box. . D style boxes like these are harder to come by than the models.
The Military Ambulance was sold from 1959 through 1964. The D style box was introduced in 1961. There are two variations known as the D1 and D2. The difference being the lettering on the D1 has serif lettering and the D2 has plain block lettering. This box is the D1. I am not certain how long it was sold in the D1 box so I can't narrow this down further than 1961-1964.
In the meantime there are replacement pieces available so that shouldn't be a problem. This model is in excellent condition otherwise. I have a feeling the original owner wasn't into the ambulance thing.
