This is a super vase I got on eBay AU as a buy it now. But it is also an example of a "near miss", & I'll explain why.
We glass collectors all have stories about items which were damaged in transit, either due to poor packaging &/or rough handling. But how many "near misses" have you encountered? That it is, things which were packaged incredibly badly, yet somehow miraculously survived?
I count this vase among my modest list of near misses. At least it was in a box (a couple of my other near misses were only in bags!)
When I opened the (very small) box, the vase was NAKED - that is, free of any paper, bubble wrap, etc, & with no insulating materials around it. Just this vase, wedged into a little box.
I swore & then went "PHEW!"
The seller has a bunch of other Bohemian art glass pieces listed but I'm not sure I can stand the anxiety to buy more, knowing how they pack parcels.
Anyway, let's get to the silver lining - a stylish vase made from a single layer of fairly thick deep purple glass, with an intense iridescent finish. There is veined decoration both horizontal & vertical, which leads me to think it is a Pampas type decor. It measures 21.5 cm tall, 4 cm across the top rim, & 7 cm across the base.
Bohemian origin, circa 1900. Not sure if it is Kralik or Rindskopf production or something else. The shape seems a little more Rindskopf like, perhaps.
Anyone else have a good near miss story to share? :-)

Many thanks, Scott! This is in my "woodland" garden. When I moved in, there was just a couple of large shrubs/small trees with nothing underneath...so I under planted with some smaller perennials, shrubs, & bulbs.
