I think this is a real WWII Railroad Eagle. It was in a barn at an estate sale. The woman at the sale said her husband took it off a train. I have heard some tall stories at estate sales, so I am unsure. The wing span is 24". The height is just under 14". On the back side, left wing is stamped J&Z. Right wing has GAl Mg Si. I can't find any with the J&Z. This one has no train mark. Any help would be great.
Google Wehrmacht Awards, click on forum and then search for train eagles. You will find plenty to read and may be the answers to your questions.
Cool piece for sure, Hitler certainly had an eye for design, as the Nazi designs and symbols were all graphic and powerful! Cool find.
A friend had one that I remember as identical to this except claimed to come from a cargo plane. That didn't make sense to me as it would be "drag". His was aluminium. Is yours?
Looking at this eagle, it looks authentic to me. Naturally a closer look would be necessary to be real sure, but I think you have a winner here. Going price - about $2000.
So cool.
