It has been rumored for years that there was a mummy hidden away in a closet at the college I attend. I asked my Bio. dept. head to show it to me.... and he did. It's so cool! The university doesn't even know where it came from and how it came to be there. They locked it away in a closet because back in the 50's or 60's some students threw it off the top of one of the buildings.... hence the tape holding his arm together. His feet are missing too.... might have been the students doing as well. Anyway, thought I would share. It's not everyday you get to touch a real mummy!

What category do I put this guy under? I don't see a "mummy" category. LOL

One theory about how the university acquired this mummy is that not long after it opened in 1939 a local doctor donated it. It is rumored that the doctor was doing a syphilis study and this was a homeless man that was infected with it. After his death the doc. gave his body to the college.... kinda sounds iffy to me. Another theory is that a local couple bought the mummy in Mexico in the 40's and brought it back to the U.S. and then donated it to the college. Guess we'll never know!

LoL !!!!! Maybe it is my long lost grandfather . His body disappeared after he died of a broken back in the 1920's . He is not buried where he is supposed to be . And no one seems to know what happened to him .
    12. tikiray tikiray, 14 years ago
LOL Hey, you just never know!

Shoot ! if you were in Oklahoma , the mummy just might have been my grandfather .
    16. tikiray tikiray, 14 years ago
oh yikes!! Glad its not him!
    17. Nancy Salisbury, 14 years ago
I have tried to find out what happened to him , but keep running into dead ends . My grandmother said that the doctor wanted to buy his body for research as they did not know that much about broken backs then . She told them no , and his body disappeared from the cemetery and they told my grandmother and myself that they have no record of him being buried in that cemetery . Yet we have records that show that is where he is supposed to be .
    18. tikiray tikiray, 14 years ago
Wow, now thats an interesting mystery! I hope you find out what happened to him. Its very sad that someone would steal a body, but it does happen.
    19. Nancy Salisbury, 14 years ago
It was back in the 1920's . I think that things like that happened more back then , then they do today . My grandmother died without ever knowing what happened to him . I gave up years ago trying to find out . I do not think we will ever know for sure . It would be nice if I could find out , but I have lost hope . I may never know what happened to my grandpa Boone .

LOL I've never heard of anyone collecting bones. Although, I do have a small collection of cat bones, but they were for me to study for a comparative anatomy class I took a few semesters ago.

Your welcome. No one gets to see this mummy, it's hidden away in an old closet in the histology lab. I wish they would put him out on display! Most people that go to the university still think he's a myth!

Do you think the university would sell this mummy? I'd love to have this for my collection.. and It would actually be cherished and on display, as opposed to be stuffed in the back of a closet..

      Shame he's not on display.
Could he be a forgotten victim of a mummy unwrapping party?

If they had a male mummy, they could put them on display as -- "MUMMY AND DUDDY" (Kind of English sounding) :-)
    41. Militarist Militarist, 12 years ago
That is a hell of a way to spend eternity. I wish some forensic lab could do some DNA dectective work on him as a project and narrow down some of his history.
