Hello. I purchased this camera at an antique shop in the city of Ontonagan in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan about 11 years ago (I almost walked right by it, without checking it out). The inside of the back of this camera identifies it as a No. 3A Model C Folding Pocket Kodak, with the latest patent date of 1909. It certainly bears most of the characteristics of a 3A Model C from that era. However, the markings on the shutter speed dial (see detail in Photo 4) are completely different than the markings on other 3A Model C's that I have seen on the Internet from that same era. Please note the shutter speed settings which seem to be absent from most of these cameras that I've seen. Also note the "AA" markings on the bottom left of the dial, and the Ballbearing EKC logo with a patent number at the bottom. I have searched across the web and have not seen another similar model camera with these specific markings. What, if anything, sets this camera apart from the others that I have seen on the web? Thanks for your interest and help!!

This specific Ball Bearing shutter has the optional “Kodak Autotime Scale.” According to Kodak catalogues, it was advertised to “greatly reduce the liability of error in exposure, as it automatically indicates the proper time and stop opening for subjects under any condition of outdoor photography.”

The Autotime Scale first appeared in 1910 and continued to be offered through 1922. The No.3A Model C was sold from 1912 to 1915, and the Autotime Scale was available as a $1 option on the Ball Bearing shutter.

The 'AA' shown on the badge refers "Style AA"; which is the Autotime Scale model designation for use on a Kodak Ball Bearing shutter mounted on larger format cameras (i.e. the Model C which was 3-1/4 x 5-1/2).

      To rniederman:

Thanks so much for the information. It was very helpful. You obviously have great knowledge about these and many other cameras. Your assistance was much appreciated.

      This camera is beautiful!

This is a helpful site for me in dealing with Kodak Cameras.

Your camera is listed about 3/4 of the way down the page and is easier to find if you search the origianl list price of $78.00

I love the red baffle to it...interested in selling it or trading? I have a Kodak 1-A autographic from 1914 that is the same style and logo.

I have a camera from the 1940's or 50's and in the viewfinder it says Made in Stuttgart, Germany. On the back it says Six-20, Ser II. When you open the front and the shutter extends, it says: Kodak Compur-Rapid. Can someone please tell me what I have and what it may be worth? Serial # 125409k. Can you still find 620 film? Thanks...Sam Goldfarb, San Antonio, Texas.
