This wonderful item is from my husband's grandmother Maria Fischer who lived in Ludenscheitt, Germany. I saw a listing (expired) on Ebay for the same thing that said it was Victorian era. Does anyone know anything about this type of thing? The handle is in the shape of a Rooster and is gold plate while the cutting part is silverplate.
I believe it is Rooster Motif Egg Cutter / Scissors - Germany.
(Circa 1850-1899)
. This fascinating little gadget functions rather like a cigar cutter in that you place the small end of the egg in the round part of the scissors and the razor edge on the other half of the piece cuts off the top of a soft boiled egg.
Very nice ! a real treasure to you recieved from Grandmother
Wa a ting!
i think you have your mystery solved -- very pretty
Thanks, Manikin! What great help and inspiration you have provided! We also have some bird shaped lemon squeezers - silverplate, too. We have all kinds of interesting things!
Your welcome and would love to see your other items :-) Post away ! and join in the fun of sharing and we all learn something from what others collect . So it is fun and also knowledge learned about things we may never have seen .
I'll submit the silverplate rose shears under a separate item!
I cannot help you but I do love them.
This will gross you out, I saw something like this on Pawn Stars that removes tonsils. ugh.
They are just super-cool. Aren't they, though!
I just picked up one very like it at a garage sale. I thought something was missing from the opening. Glad to know it’s made like that to cut the top of an egg.
