I am sure this little guy is familiar to all of you, or at least it sure rings a bell...)
You're right! this is one the of the bronze glass vases which design, attributed to Christopher Dresser, is based upon the Trojan ceramic pieces found by Heinrich Schliemann.
And you all know well this baby's big brother, the very polemical horned vase we first thought to be from Lötz and ended up being a wonderful Webb vase which used the very same technique Löetz did 20 years later: http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/55879-thomas-webb-and-sons-bronze-vase-1878
Carlos got this little vase (13,5 cm. tall) some months ago and I've been wanting to share it since them, but I wanted to take a nice pic of it... and I think this one's a good one!
As you can see the iridiscence is intense, and it is pretty much like that of its big brother, although this one having a smooth texture isn't as dramatic and colourful as the horned one, and it misses much of the pinks and purples the big one has.
As for th funny face and ears, what can I say?
By the way, I am adding some pics in this post. Pic No.2 displays two more Webb vases design after Scliemann's discoveries, and pic No.3 displays some of the original Trojan Scliemann vases.
We've got a third Webb/Dresser vase inspired in Mycenaean ceramics (Schliemann digged first at troja, then in Mycenae) and I will soon share it here!
PS: Thanks to SteveS for his corrections!!!
Thanks for the love, Moonstone lover!!! haha, for the first time Sean wasn't the first to love it :)
By the way, as links don't seem to work when they're in the post, here it the lik to the other Webb/Dressser vase: http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/55879-thomas-webb-and-sons-bronze-vase-1878
Thanks charcoal and czechman for your loves!
He's adorable! Hey Austro, heading to Scotland soon?
Not now.... I wish! We depart on Aug. 19th. We're visiting every single building designed by Charles R. Mackintosh in the city, plus one more outside :) and the furniture!!!! :P
Fabulous posting! Great vases! Wow! Special!
stunning!!! so so loving this very much austro:)
Sean, is this not stunning!!!
Hi guys! Thank you all for the loves and the comments!!! I'm so glad you like this little vase that much :)
Hi AH
These are just great ...
wondering if they are documented as "Mycenaean" (Mycenic) anywhere ... The Schliemann reference and the picture in photo 4 suggests Trojan ... although the Atreides occupation of Troy could certainly have brought Mycenaean pottery to the site ...?
Cheers
You're absolutely right, SteveS! It's Troyan, no Mycenaean. I totally swithch the info with our third Webb Bronze vase, which does have this Mycenaean inspiration... As you point out, it's even clearly written on the 4th pic :) I'm editing the text and writing Trojan instead :) Thanks so so very much!!!
your very welcome austro!!!!
More gorgeousness :)
Thanks Lise!! This one's also very cute :P
