Awsome piece, thanks for sharing,I would love to have her for my collection.I'm available for adoption by the way, hah.Where did you find her at?
    12. hapoli, 14 years ago
NO please don't part with her.
    13. susan, 14 years ago
Hi Hapoli, dont worry, i do not ever intend to part with her!! i have other hoffman pieces i wil show later.
Dah2112, it is a awesome piece, i live in the North East of England, there is a Victorian train station that has a flea / antique market on week ends, she was sitting on a back shelf covered in dust and i knew as soon as i saw her what she was and who made her, the moulding is so crisp and fine, not like some of the new reproductions whose lines are a little blurred and undefined.
If you ever visit the Notrh East of England visit Tynemouth Station Market, but go on Saturday morning not Sunday when it is a farmers market, one stall is even filled with silver that the stall holder sells by the ounce!!

So she was meant to by yours!! Cant wait to see what else you have.

You can clearly tell the difference between yours and this one...

O M G!! i have seen some crude examples, but this takes the biscuit, i wonder where it was made, i know that some of the moulds were sold off probably secondary moulds, but this one seems hollow whereas the originals are solid glass, you can clearly see the difference between the two.
I think when i get time i will do a search for more early Czech designers and post them here.
      Thanks Tikiray :-)

YW! I looked at that one on eBay and thought "eww" LOL That is a pathetic attempt at beautiful glass.
    19. Savoychina1 Savoychina1, 14 years ago
tikiray...the one one ebay starts at 99 cents and I am sure it is worth every penny! lol

LOL!! I hope people don't think it's real and start bidding!

I just found one of these at an estate sale this last week. Only her head was broken off:( The children of the persons sale said that the father had given it to his wife when they were kids, 50 some years ago and had been beheaded for almost as long.
They gave her to me. Its a fairly clean break and I am trying to figure out if I should just fix her myself or take her to a professional? Any thoughts? thanks.

Oh sorry I will post some pictures as soon as I get a new computer, lost mine in a power surge. Have limited computer time for a while.
    23. susan, 13 years ago
Hi vintagemad, post some pics please, as to mending her, it depends on the break and how much it will cost and if the piece is right.
I would still like to see her :-)

Hi. I have the same piece except mine is blue. The little butterfly is in the piece like yours but the bottom is etched R. Lalique. I was told by the antique dealer this was a Lalique. Later got a 2nd opinion and was told this is Desna Glass, but Desna is not marked on my piece anywhere. I feel pretty sure I was taken, just wondering how badly...I'm confused as to Desna Vs. Hoffman.
    25. susan, 13 years ago
      Hi Lisa,
I am sorry to hear you have had so much trouble :-(
I am afraid someone in the past who had your piece did not know what they had, quite a few of Hoffman pieces have turned up with a lalique signature, but they are fake, could you please post a photo of the signature or email it to me so i can have a look?
This is the Desna site http://www.desna-glass.cz they use some of the original moulds as explained on their site, and this is the original Hoffman catalogue page showing your piece http://www.glas-musterbuch.de/Hoffmann-1927.25.0.html
scroll down to Bild 66 and you will find your piece.
All Desna pieces have the Desna name to the base, Heinrich Hoffman pieces have the little butterfly mark, this is his signature mark, there is no link between Hoffman and Lalique.
But dont be too dissapointed, although Hoffman is not held in quite the high esteem as Lalique, his original work is still highly sought after.

Sorry!! forgot to add, on the Hoffman page you can click on any image for a larger view.
