Sometimes things just catch my eye .... I really gave forgotten where I picked this up. The cover photo is just fabulous and the condition of the 10" inside looked almost mint. The cover is well worn. But the names !!!
Impromptu !!!!
From what I can make out this is a rare Australian pressing of this classic. I lived through the Fifties in Australia and I suspect that not argue numbers of this title was sold.
I'm still to play it! I do not have the equipment any more !!
All my vinyl I sold to an ex-partner when we split 25 years ago ... I still miss them to be truthful. One of life's regrets!
This is the only vinyl I own.

I recall reading somewhere (I can't find it right now) that when they all first got together, Oscar Peterson said he could see that Gillespie was out for blood, and Peterson made up his mind that it wasn't going to be his. };-)
Gillespie was actually trying to push Getz. He did push Getz, but not over the edge.

Jazz is often portrayed as an individualistic art, and Louis Armstrong has been credited with throwing the spotlight on the individual soloist rather than collective improvisers. Yet jazz is also a collaborative affair, in which the musicians listen to one another and react accordingly.

Many thanks for those great comments, KERAMIKOS !!!!!
vetraio50, You are more than welcome. :-)
Thank cisum for bring this post back to the font page.
I used to listen to Diz, Stan, et al. on my way to work in the mornings. It kept my mind tuned up. };-)
vetraio50, I tried to find that Oscar Peterson quote about Dizzy Gillespie, but no joy thus far. :-(
I'm enclosing an excerpt from Michael Ullman's liner notes for Verve Jazz Masters 25 (annoyingly, nobody at discogs scanned both pages, so I had to bust out my own copy):
*snip
Dizzy put Getz through his paces, taking tempos that, according to Gillespie's comments later, disconcerted the tenor saxophonist without actually unnerving him. They're perfectly matched on the theme statement of it Don't Mean a Thing, with Getz answering Dizzy's tightly muted statements with phrases that flutter like a flag in the wind. Gillespie's solo finds him imperturbably playing rapid, rhythmically varied phrases. Getz enters with a flurry and runs the changes, exploiting his beautifully controlled, varied tone — then falling back on patterns like the apt Lester Young student he was. The solos of Oscar Peterson and Ray Brown are equally adept, and Max Roach — well, Roach's apprenticeship with Charlie Parker left him ready for anything.
*snip*
As to the idea of anybody ever being able to disconcert, let alone unnerve Oscar Peterson: as if. };-)
On "The Lady Is a Tramp," you can hear Peterson scatting under his breath as he plays:
