You would be hard pressed to find an earlier baseball card than this one! Civil War or earlier photographs of baseball players and teams are exceedingly rare to find.
This photograph dates from 1864 and depicts the "Class Nine" from Phillips Academy, Andover.
The image depicts the team with the central figure holding a baseball and bat.
The carte de visite (cdv) photograph is backmarked by Warren of Cambridgeport, Mass.
Reproduction of this image is prohibited.
Another wonderful image, SCOTTV!!!!
Thanks much vetraio-- I appreciate you looking.

Scott this school is old and many guys went to the great school and after years in Boston college's were great men in USA. You have from old money to take into this school. Or the same family, one of the great school for kids 12-18 in the USA.
Yep-- famous school with well known alumni.
Including Presidents, scholars, military men, actors....

Scott i did drive by the school maybe days.
The image is an outdoor shot on high ground-- any spots on the current campus that resemble the cdv photograph?

Would you be interested in parting with this one ?
This site is show and tell, so IAW the rules I don't sell/ trade from here.
Are you an early baseball collector and familiar with the values on these early images?
scott
Just a great card Scott I've never seen one this old!!
Thanks roddy.
Base Ball images from this era are truly RARE. Any 19th century baseball commands a lot of attention and high prices, but Civil War era puts it into another level.
scott
Thanks Scott I do come across old photos from time to time will keep both eyes open for these types of images!!
As a general rule, 19th century baseball will put you in the 100s and Civil War Base Ball will put you into the THOUSANDS!
Lots of FAKES out there, so don't put much $$ into it until you are familiar with telling the garbage from the real stuff.

Great advice Scott have seen some faked older hockey items over the years.
