Thought the folks here would enjoy seeing this very early
Coca-Cola embossed and painted tin sign.
    Measures 4" high x 14" long.
An amazing survivor in remarkable condition.
Some bending and creases with a little flaking and corrosion around the edges, no holes, though not perfect the field is in pretty good shape.
    Sign makers' name lower right,
Townsend, Hostetter & Co Chicago Ill

Not sure the tin Coca-Cola signs come any earlier. Certainly this is one of the first. The stuff of my dreams... sigh...

Outstanding, outstanding and outstanding! How did you find this sign?
    3. wby wby, 9 years ago
In reality, the sign found us a few months ago. The lady we bought it from said it came to her among her grandmother's possessions. We've had confirmation it is only the second example known to exist. That one has been dated by a known authority to 1887. The other example is in a world renowned collection and had passed through Petretti's hands in the early 1980's.

      Wow wby,
That's a amazing find at pretty much any cost. Very very cool, umm let me know if you ever want to part with it

Wby- thank you for sharing. I'm going out on a limb to say this is the most valued Coca Cola sign posted on this site. Going in your personal collection, auction or maybe that collector mentioned? :)

We aren't making any commitments at this point. Definitely a once in a career item, so there's no rush....unless someone very serious steps up. I'd love to place it into a major collection, where it will gain the place in history it deserves.
I'm happy everyone enjoys seeing our little gem.

Wby - Might think about The Coca-Cola Archives.
    8. wby wby, 9 years ago
Edisonfan - yes, that would be an awesome place for it.

What an awesome sign:) Only 2 in existence!! What did the other example sell for?
    10. wby wby, 9 years ago
The other example has been in a private collection since the early 1980's.
    11. Trey Trey, 9 years ago
What value would you put on this?
    12. wby wby, 9 years ago
Trey, that's a difficult question to answer. I'm not expert in this category. Perhaps someone who is might chime in.
