    (756 items)

Not my type of thing really .... but I was not prepared to let it be trashed. It was Saturday last that I was helping to clean out a deceased estate and I saw this going onto the top of a loaded skip. I saved this and one other item that I will post later this week.

As to what it is I was not sure .... but I suspected that it would react to black light and it certainly does as you can see in these pictures. I have had a quick look on the net and saw that it might be called a bob-bon dish or a compote bowl on a stand. The stand has no marks ... I think it must have been plated. The bowl revolves nicely still !!!

It is 24 cm or 9.4" across.

It survived the maltreatment and is entirely intact.

The pink and uranium really pops in the right light.

Ozmarty suggested that it might well be Bohemian rather than American ... perhaps Rindskopf or Kralik. But can we ask the CW glass people their opinion ???

such a perfect example of that type of glasswork, the ruffles, the intricate shapes of the glass, I'd love to own it, myself, love the light in it, the color, it's not too big. It would look great with a vintage doilly underneath, maybe some fruit inside and placed on an older table
    24. Darlie Darlie, 9 years ago
It doesn't look American and it isn't complete according to the images. This looks to be the base of a basket epergne.
    25. PhilDMorris PhilDMorris, 9 years ago
I have seen items like this here in Canada, but not sure if the base was a marriage. If it was it was a brilliant idea. I know the glass I see at auction a fair bit. Its a beautiful item I am sure you realize that now !~

    27. vetraio50 vetraio50, 9 years ago
Hi DARLIE ... I can see no damage at all where a handle for a basket may have been located. It really is complete in itself. I know that it originally came from a Cobram home in country Victoria here in Australia.

It might well be a marriage, PHIL .... but I have a feeling it was always like this. I know the family well and its history. The thing just sits so well on the base. A marriage could cause damage but this just sits nicely and rotates with ease. It was my partner's grandmother who originally had it. He can remember it in the old house at Cobram.

Yes, no, maybe. These came up today while I was looking for something at lunch. Everyone knows I'm new and I'm not sure what "Bohemian" covers so I really don't want to offend anyone. Some of them said "antique Hunt glass". The 1st one doesn't but the 2nd one does.

      Did I make you laugh?
    40. vetraio50 vetraio50, 9 years ago
To tell you the truth I just showed it to Paul and we really did have a chuckle. His elder brother had put it on the skip. It's not as large as the one in Germany but ....
    41. vetraio50 vetraio50, 9 years ago
.... you HAVE TO CHUCKLE !!!
    42. vetraio50 vetraio50, 9 years ago
And to see the others with the metal mounts as well !!!!

The mount on the German one is rococo .... ours is more subdued.

      Incongruous but the genuine thing.

The crucial fact - it`s intact. I have two silver stands but cannot find intact glass. Searching for the country of origin is a waste of time - it was made everywhere in the late 19th century and even with Jugendstil stands. Even with marked stand one cannot be sure the glass belongs there. Enjoy it and search for silver stand - glass is more fragile than silver :-)

Hugs to you Vetraio... If not set for an epergne my next guess would be a bridal basket missing it's metal base to sit it in? Maybe you have learned more about it since, please keep us updated. It is a beauty and a great find!
    55. Darlie Darlie, 9 years ago
Actually it has its base already... I think bridal basket lol
    56. vetraio50 vetraio50, 9 years ago
Thanks DARLIE ... everything I know of it can be read on this page. As Ivan says it is probably a useless task looking for a precise factory but I trust Glassiegirl's ideas generally on this type of glass and her view that it is a 'tazza' and 100% Bohemian.

    63. vetraio50 vetraio50, 9 years ago
I received an email from WELZEBUB this morning who referred me to a dead ringer for this piece. But rather than on a stand it has a polished base and pontil. Within the pontil is a name: WEBB.

      http://www.ebay.com/itm/Antique-Victorian-Webb-Art-Glass-Vaseline-Pink-Opalescent-Brides-Basket-Bowl-/391446928830?hash=item5b240e1dbe:g:lDEAAOSw~oFXJrxG
    64. vetraio50 vetraio50, 9 years ago
The question is whether that is a correct WEBB mark.

More to this than meets the eye !!!!
    65. vetraio50 vetraio50, 9 years ago
Many thanks RÜCKLGLASS for your input. I've only had a brief look at the Webb marks on the net. I'll be watching the progress of that object with interest.

That spiralling pattern in the mould is quite particular though. That's the reason for my interest really and the comment about 'dead ringer'.

Family history tells me that this one goes back three generations.
As regards the other one I have no idea.
How on earth do they get that pink on the edge anyway?

    68. vetraio50 vetraio50, 9 years ago
I had been aware of it for 25 years in the family home. Some things just shout at you. But when an object comes home you look at it with new eyes. I am indeed lucky enough as well to be able to tap into the collective knowledge of those with generous hearts here at CW.
