Hi CW Gang:
Another older item I grew up with at home. I think this was actually an Ashtray - but was never used as that in my parents home even when they smoked. As mint as the day it was made. I have carried this with me for years and I grew up as a kid in my parents home / farm. Weeping Gold things were all the Rage at one time ~ and this still is an eye catcher. Marked on the back with:
HAND PAINTED
22 K. - GOLD U.S.A
WEEPING -BRIGHT GOLD
So it almost has SOLID gold hand-painted on it. I think this was from around the later 1960's or early 1970's era.
Thanks for LOOKING // LOVING !!

So glad you posted this Rose. I got a bud vase in one of my not so pretty posts. They are lovely pieces but your picture is much better than anything I could post.
Plus yours as always has a great story. :)
Thanks OGF -- for the wonderful comments / support as always !! I always enjoy hearing from you. Take care there -- Storm here tonight
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful Rosie! I love how the weeping gold looks like they dripped melted gold all over the surface... Gorgeous!
I, too, have a weeping bright gold vase. Was always in our house growing up, putting it before 1960. Not sure just how old it is. Have posted it on CW.
Quite an interesting process. Liquid wax is dabbed on greenware. When the greenware is dipped in glaze the glaze runs off the waxed parts. When the piece is fired the wax burns off leaving the areas with glaze shiny and the areas where the wax was in a matte finish. The piece is then painted with gold and refired. Producing the effect shown here.
