It's not old, but it is a keepsake to remember a momentus occasion in our nation's history. Perhaps not since the announcement of the death of Adolf Hitler, which coincidently was sixty-six years ago to the day yesterday, has the death of such an evil man meant so much to the world. A side note, the font that was used on this headline, was the biggest used by this newspaper since September 12, 2001, when the headline simply read "TERROR", and that was the largest font used since WWII.
I always fly our flag. Today it will fly even higher! I am so very lucky to be an AMERICAN!
I reused your Twain quote. Very fitting.
who is next kadaffey i think him and charlie sheen are still winning
Love the Twain quote too!
Really is it necessary to exploit the death of a man...terrorist or not. This upsets me that you keep this on your site.
I'm guessing shughs is not American or simply has no heart. This was a mass murderer, he deserves no respect.
"Respect a terrorist".....I don't think that is what I said or implied.
I said it like, YOU are exploiting the death of a MAN (terrorist or otherwise).
On being an american.....well I can say if you knew my life then I am probably more American than most. I am born and raised here. I am a business owner, mother, wife and very much American.
I realize what he has done and there is no need to put POLITICS on this collectors website. We don't need to see it, when it is all over the news, and newspapers and talked about in peoples homes.
I would be very careful how you distort my words. I would have to say the comments came from someone not quit educated to take what I said and see that it doesn't belong on THIS site.
Shughs, I respect your opinion, but I also respectfully disagree. I am not celebrating a death of a human being. Whether or not it is popular, this was a historical event. Like I said, a momentous occasion in our nation's history. People collect newspapers depicting historical events, good and bad, that's why there is a category for it. There are newspapers on here from when Pearl Harbor was bombed. Is that any different? I also have the newspaper from 9/11. I resigned myself to the fact that this event was going to end in his death eventually. I would have been fine with Bin Laden rotting in a cage for the rest of his life. To end the political discussion, if something upsets you, don't look at it. You obviously missed the point of this post. To the others, questioning someone's heritage and patriotism, you should be ashamed of yourselves. You have all taken this way too far. The debate can exist about whether or not this belongs on this site, personal attacks and insults, under any circumstances, do not belong on this site.
All I can say is enough said.....
Nicely said Jason.
Everyone has a right to this site AuctionLover.
Viking, some day your great-grandchildren will be glad you held on to that paper. It truly is and always will be a piece of history, bickering notwithstanding! When I get my research published next year I'll send you a copy, it will be history one day too. lol :)
Agreed! What is your research??
Isolation of bacteriophage for staphylococcus aureus :)
I think I can pronounce all those words.
LOL too funny!
staphylococcus has no place on this site !
haha, I agree!
I do believe I have a right to be on this site because I am American and I love antiques and collectibles! Thank you and God Bless America!!!
Every man must do two things alone; he must do his own believing and his own dying.
Martin Luther (1483-1546) German priest and scholar.
The hour of departure has arrived and we go our ways; I to die, and you to live. Which is better? Only God knows.
Socrates (BC 469-BC 399) Greek philosopher of Athens
Wow, I just noticed this controversy. I guess I’ll have to throw in my 2 cents worth.
I just posted a front page newspaper with the headline President Roosevelt Dies.
Have I offended any democrats, or anyone else out there? Should my posting be censored? I don’t think so. News is news. Some try to slant the news, but it must never be censored. Sixty-six years ago, my posting was news. Today, it’s history. Viking’s posting is news today, history tomorrow. History is history. Some try to mold history for political purposes, but fact is fact and can’t be changed. Since when is the death of a terrorist political? It’s a news story, and editor’s make the headline for one purpose: to sell newspapers. Viking saved the newspaper not to exploit the death, but because he's a collector. It's as simple as that. Frankly, I think there is a moral issue involved here. Like many folks, I had mixed feelings when I watched Americans celebrating the death of Bin Laden. Is it morally appropriate to celebrate the death of a human being? Perhaps not. I prefer to look at it from this perspective: Let us celebrate the passing of the evil that this man represents.
Unfortunately, there’s plenty more evil out there and I’ve no doubt in the future that there will be more celebrations and headlines, and more newspapers to
collect.
