My grandmother brought this on the ship with her when you came to America in the early 1900's. Years later, upon a visit to Ireland she saw a very similar platter on display and took photos. If anyone knows more about this design and it's history my family would appreciate it! Thanks.
Hi again, Esscrow. :-)
That is the famous Blue Willow pattern, and there is a story associated with it:
https://livinghistoryfarm.org/farminginthe30s/lrRead_02_01.html
Unfortunately, it was very popular and much copied pattern made by many china makers.
I don't recognize the hallmark (it looks like a beehive surrounded by a wreath and surmounted by a crown?), but perhaps somebody else will.
this is Staffordshire Wreathe mid 19 ct to end 19 ct
Thank you
I appreciate the information and link to the story. Looks like I have more research to do. Happy New Year
IMO the historical and social anthroposophical are unsound
I think from origin we are committed to Qianlong period 1736-1795 so prior to Thomas Turner in 1780
so first there is the pattern and afterwards the story
some historians stated we are are committed to the Honglou Meng = The dream of Red Mansion
but nowadays it is probably common knowledge to be committed to Hsi Hsiang Chi ,s The romance of the Western Chamber
There are a few common themes in social anthroposophic
it,s is about attacking feudal morel and civil disobedience
1the theme is you got an knock girl who defies an official, and it depends on the time , he is winning
see also birth announcement bowles , ( obligation to to patriach to) who were shaped like an uterus accompagnied by lets so it decent an appendix ( haha)
the LI T,ai PO bowl is the same mocquerie of the high brow people (alcoholism)
3 riding the qilin scene etc etc
so in my opinion it is a fallacy( the error) that correlation scientifically got the same meaning as cause and effect
Esscrow, You're welcome. :-)
There are more elaborate versions of the Blue Willow story out there if you use Blue Willow as your search criteria.
I myself haven't been able to find an exact twin of that backstamp.
Happy New Year backatcha. :-)
apostata, What I got out of all that information in your longer comment: the Blue Willow china pattern is older than the story. That seems quite plausible.
With regard to the specific version of the Blue Willow china pattern on the platter in this post: can you provide a link to a back stamp that looks like it? I haven't been able to find one.

i asked a seller on ebay but you don,t have to believe me, but i am sure of it , i am not in the hybris business
apostata, I believe you, but a picture would be nice.
I try to provide links for most of my content here on Collectors Weekly Show & Tell, because I don't expect people to take my word for it. They can review the content at the links, and judge for themselves whether it's credible.
i agree , but i can,t substantiate , sometimes i must asked musea or universities c asian art research dealers etc, sometimes i come in years later , but they probably are the better experts , the point is i am severely ill , and i got about 10-15 requests a day, so i got to prioretise ( at least as people wants me to consult , because not that significant , and i am one man destruction company) and i have to sell my own stock , because i don,t know will happen , nothing tragic , but it is the way it is.
Thank you both for all of your insight!! I appreciate all of the information.
Esscrow, You're quite welcome.
Here are a couple more links you might want to explore in case you want to know more about apostata's "historical and social anthroposophical" remark:
