I've finally gotten control of my collecting habits and updated the main display of vintage wood and brass cameras; ranging from the mid-1870s to around 1913. The collection used to be much bigger, but it has been culled back to very special items. Larger format cameras are displayed separately around my home office because they don't fit on the shelves. All-in-all, it's pleasant to be able to work surrounded by polished mahagany and gleaming brass. The only problem is keeping the cameras dust free.

It is good to see that the shelf-gods have smiled upon you ! Extraordinary collection. Always a pleasure to see parts of it.

Rob, I think I might cry. That is one breathtaking collection. I have yet to acquire a single wood and brass camera for my collection!

Beautiful collection! You must be very proud!
    4. rniederman rniederman, 13 years ago
Thanks for all of the compliments! The display is the culmination of over 20 years of search and refinement (i.e. continuous upgrading to more interesting items). Although I continue to look for interesting cameras; accessories will slowly be added to make it a bit more diverse and interesting.

      Rob Niederman,
Your camera site Antique & 19th Century Cameras is one of the top researched and professionally presented on the internet. It reflects years of work and a lifetime of refining your taste to get it to that point. Congratulations on a work well done.
Matt Isenburg, a fan of yours since Cape Cod.

      Wow! That looks incredible.

I've never really been a fan of vintage cameras, but something about this display I could sit and look at all day!

Awesome - I'm just getting started with cameras with only 5 so far.
    10. rniederman rniederman, 12 years ago
Hi WinterWolf; Glad to hear that you're interested in cameras. It's fun, challenging and the history is amazingly interesting. IMO, its about quality over quantity. I purposely keep my collection small. So starting posting your cameras here, we look forward to seeing them! Is there a particular area or types of cameras you are collecting?

Really nice camera collection...I had a problem with dust for all my books,... so I bought tall old glass door and built some frames for the doors and it woorks like a charm...
    20. rniederman rniederman, 12 years ago
Thanks, Roycroftbooksfromme1! Before moving into my current house, this collection was behind glass. Oddly, everything still got dusty because of the air pressure changes from seasonal heating and cooling.

Just like to say what a great collection you have.
They look grand. I wouldn't want to do the dusting though. I've found even inside a glass cabinet things get dusty.

My wife always complains about the dust problem..... :(
    59. fleafinder fleafinder, 8 years ago
why dont you keep them in a cabinet? those sliding glass door kind. really helps with keeping dust out n keeping out rhinitis
    60. rniederman rniederman, 8 years ago
Hi fleafinder. There was a time that my collection was in custom made cabinets behind glass ... the cameras still got dusty. Changes in air pressure (air conditioning / heating) pushed dust through the crevices. That was in a different house. This current display is in my home office. The shelving is built into the room.
    61. fleafinder fleafinder, 8 years ago
oh wow you really put much thought into housing them. Guess they ll do fine with a little dusting:))

I put a comment here for Daddy_Nobucks to see camera display. This was posted 11 years ago. Some of the cameras have changed but it's my primary display.
