      Hi, Vron121. :-)

Google Lens didn't turn up any twins, but a lot of siblings and cousins. Metal buttons with shields or crests on them have been and continue to be popular.

As somebody who spent more than a little time in sewing goods stores in my youth, I can tell you that the various big name fashion button makers made a lot of similar-looking buttons, e.g.:

      *snip*

La Mode buttons by Blumenthal Lansing is our premier line of fashion and replacement buttons. For over 125 years La Mode has been known for its high quality buttons. These are the buttons that we are most known for, ask any sewer and they'll know the La Mode name. If you look in your Grandmothers button tin, you will most likely find a La Mode buttons vintage button or button card in the mix. When the garment no longer fit or just wore out, these are the buttons that were cut off and saved for their beauty and durability.

      *snip*

Most vintage/antique uniform buttons have the manufacturer's name or mark on the back, e.g.:

      https://inkspotantiques.com/index.php?main_page=page&id=1

The backs of your grandfather's buttons have nothing other than two circles that look to me like the remnants of the casting process, e.g.:

I suspect that your grandfather's buttons are vintage fashion buttons, and not brass or copper.

I could be wrong, because I'm definitely not an expert. You might want to consult a local antique or coin shop (the latter might have vintage/antique uniform buttons as well as coins).

      Good luck. :-)
