Howdy,
Reaching out to the community with a request for assistance in identifying this item I found at an estate sale. It appears to be some sort of signal device. It has a red glass lens and a red glass bowl protected by a metal wire basket. The red glass bowl in the wire basket is attached to an arm that swings freely back and forth beneath the top piece with the red lens. The back of the top piece has 2 screws that may be electrical connections or mounting screws. I'm going to work on removing the back t see what the inside looks like.
Attached is a photo of the inside area of the top piece. I don't see any source of illumination in that area, but have not yet removed the back of that piece.
This appears to be chrome, but in need of cleaning due to surface corrosion.
Any help is appreciated,
Regards.
It is a tail light known as Wig-Wag. Studebaker auto manufacturers option. Made by Safety Signal Devices Inc. of Chicago. Quite RARE.

That is an odd piece..very interesting. I thought I had seen all the auto stuff..
slackjack, thanks for the valuable information and input. Mystery solved.
It's a pretty cool device. Too bad Studebaker is not around any longer, though they did have a pretty good run.
