This one had me puzzled when I first picked it up at a yard sale… I thought it might’ve been for holding a soldering iron or something hot where it was a heavy cast-iron. It is a Kendrick goffering iron . It was used in the laundry in the 1800s early 1900s. It was used to shape collars and petticoats etc. there would’ve been a rod heated in the stove and inserted into the chamber.
Interesting piece..would make a cool light..
Hi Dave, yes, it sure would! Can you drill through cast-iron lol
I would not modify an original piece like that, lots of other options..
Interesting piece indeed!! I never would have guessed what this was used for. Nice find!!
Thank you! Yes, it would be a great piece for a guessing contest… Before I tracked it down, I had many guesses including a soldering, iron holder, a cigar holder, curling iron holder. I assumed it was for something hot
lol..... I had to L@@K twice at it -- thought it was a mold.
Get my mind out of the gutter !!
Ha ha I guess anything is possible
And truth be told my fellow Canuck… I have an active imagination and I’m pretty sure that initially my mind went there, too;)
