This is something I have been after for some time. This is the Hubley P38 Lightning which I believe was made in the early 1960s and perhaps the 1950s. This is a diecast model. All pieces are metal aside from the the landing wheels. It does have retractable landing gear. Wingspan is a bit over a foot to give an idea of scale.
As for the real Lightning it was basically 2 P40 Warhawks combined with a buzzsaw in the nose. There were some problems with the early models but it ended up as the plane the two top scoring aces flew. I believe it was one of the only US fighters produced throughout the war. The 2 engines were handy in the Pacific where a single engine plane would not fare well should that single engine fail.
I have a really fun toy coming up and no one will want to miss that.

Thank you very much Vynil!
