This is a 1919 "yardlong" photograph of HQ Company of the 9th Infantry Regiment. It was a recent acquisition.
This occupation photograph was taken in the city of Bendorf, Germany.
The regiment earned SIX Battle Streamers during WW1 fighting in the 2nd Infantry Division "Indianhead".
The distinctive patches can be seen on many of the soldiers pictured.
Additionally, two members can be seen wearing their Distinguished Service Crosses (DSC).

Now that's a very cool picture!
Almost looks like the guys on the left in the 3rd picture are wearing German leather cartridge belts, but it's probably just a darker material than the usual khaki belts.
Thanks Doc-- they are just darker and look to be US on close inspection.

Hey Scott ... what's the height of the image?
The image itself is about 8", with frame about 10 1/2". And the frame is a little over a yard long!

It's definitely one of the best panoramic military images I've seen. More than likely the image was shot with a Cirkut No.8 camera. The camera rotated on a tripod head and the roll-film moved past a slit style shutter. It was quite a mechanical marvel.

I see you have not posted in several years, so my effort here may not work. My grand uncle was in the HQ/HQ Company of the 9th Infantry Regiment for entire WWI service. I would love to get a close look at this foot long and the other one you mentioned. How might I be able to do that? Thanks,

Sold them both (together) at the Mansfield Civil War Show. I don't recall who the buyer was, but I moved them at a reasonable price. They took up a lot of table space and the big frames and glass are easy to break.
Yard longs are not that popular (even with the DSC content) due to the wall space required.
