Hello,
Sorry that I haven't been around very much lately, I've missed all of the wonderful people and things on here, I hope you've all been well.
This week-end I had a chance to do a bit of shopping and picked up a couple of things that I'm really excited about.
This Dog portrait is especially beautiful to me. Yes, I now have cats, and am crazy about them, but I love all creatures great and small,....and this little dog absolutely stole my heart.
I believe that it's embroidered silk, and that it was probably hand done,( ? ). It's 11+3/4" X 14+3/4", and has all the poise and shimmer of a real dog,....
( he seems to quiver on the silk background ).
The framing is really lovely, all archival with UV filtering glass,....so whoever had it loved and valued it very much.
The price was a little high for me, but when I asked if it was a 'fixed' price they dropped it by a significant chunk, even though it was new for the shop.
I haven't had any luck finding information about this type of work on the internet,...if anyone could help I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks very much,
Tony.
Hello Petey, isn't it beautiful?! Thank for the love.
The Chinese and Japanese did this work. But the Europeans were capable of the same type of work. The perspective looks more European than Asian. Check out "Su Embroidery" from Suzhou, China. But this image of the dog just looks more English. But they can copy anything.
Thanks For the love, Kevin and Hedgewalker,
and Kevin, thanks for the comment. I'll look up the embroidery you mentioned and try to find the European embroidery of this type as well.
Your help is much appreciated!,
Tonino
Thanks for the love, Tony

the Love is much appreciated!
oh lucky lucky you!!! -- this is so beautiful -- i hardly think a machine could have done this -- the guru on this type of work is helen m stevens which you may want to check out
one of her books to consider checking out is
"the timeless art of embroidery" by helen m stevens copyright 1997
ISBN 0-7153-0434-8
the following is helen's website in england
http://www.helenmstevens.co.uk/
been thinking about your portrait as to whether it is machine or handmade -- the back will tell the story -- there will be knots if handmade -- if machine it will be smooth -- a pic of the back would help determine -- personally i'm sticking with the handmade -- and if so -- you have a very valuable work of art -- that's my guess and i'm sticking to it -- have a great weekend -- thanks for posting -- it is truly outstanding!!!!!

Great link Bonnie !
I still adore your dog portrait, Budek ! !!
Thank You, kyra, isn't it amazing? I've had it for a few years now and I still marvel at it. You know, when I was driving home with it in the back seat of the car I felt as though I'd just adopted a dog, it has that vibrancy about it.
Anyway:), Thank You for your comment and love,
and Thanks to Efesgirl for the surprising link, that's wonderful!
Happy New Year!!
